Sano spinoff school lineage
The Sano Lineage
Matsuo School
Shin Matsuo
Masayoshi Tano > Hiromi Niioka
Hanako Ueda
*The Matsuo school is more closely linked with the Yamashita effects school even though it’s a Sano school, partly due to showing off a stronger tendency for shivering camera effects and crotch shots. It’s also a Taniguchi Anno hybrid, having become somehow more divergent by adding in Moriyasu Taniguchi’s heavier details while also using relatively fewer frames a la Hirotoshi Sano from the late 1980s onward.
Sano School
Hirotoshi Sano
Masanori Shino
Eiji Nakada
Atsushi Ikariya
*Hirotoshi Sano’s Yamashita Itano hybrid school is likely where Masami Obari and his gaggle of friends ended up after being influenced by Hideaki Anno’s many details. Though his effects come from Yoshinori Kanada and Satoshi Hirayama, his designs still remain a mix of Masahito Yamashita’s and Ichiro Itano’s designs, which explains why his style remains highly obvious.
The Habara Lineage
Habara School
Nobuyoshi Habara
Kumiko Ito
*The Habara school is considerably a more innovative school than others in the Itano lineage, having merged Hideki Tamura’s cartoony liquid timing and Shinsaku Kozuma’s hang on loose style while maintaining plushy Itano depths, thus it also has inspired the more orthodox Yamashita effects school (otherwise a major part of the Kanada lineage) to find its true footing, since its founding elder Masahito Yamashita indeed was initially inspired by Osamu Dezaki’s prototypical Wakame shadows, Toshiki Hirano’s floofy curves and Minoru Maeda’s puni designs, while still being better known as someone who leans more faithfully to Asami Endo’s very playful style even today.
